Hello Joy!

Updated: Jun 19, 2022

Author Arthur C. Brooks gives some pretty good advice on how we can be happy in our lives.

He tells us that…

  • Happiness is really not up to chance and it is more than just a feeling.

  • Happiness is not a result of success or money.

  • Happiness requires subtraction (we all think it is by addition right?!)

  • Happiness is based on love.

OK, while I like happiness, joy is better. Paul implies that we can be joyful always regardless of the circumstances of our lives. Two verses to ponder as we talk about happiness and joy…

  • Romans 8:28 (TPT) 28 So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.

  • Philippians 4:6–9 (NLT) 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. 8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Take time to ponder those two verses and the impact on stress and anxiety in our lives.

· Do we believe those verses to be true?

· If you believe them, are you living as though they are true?

· What actions or thoughts would need to change to live out the beliefs of these verses?
